Belmont-Redwood Shores AYSO Region 108

Region 108 needs over 200 volunteer referees every season to ensure that our 800-plus kids have a rewarding experience playing soccer. If you have not already done so, please sign up today.

All of our officials at AYSO soccer games are volunteers from the community – people like you and me. True to the all-volunteer approach of AYSO, we do not use any paid referees.

We referee because:
  • It helps Belmont-Redwood Shores kids learn and play soccer safely.
  • It's not hard to learn how and experience is not necessary,
  • Training and mentoring are at hand to help you learn the rules easily. It is a great way to help kids learn ethics, values and sportsmanship.
  • It's great for exercise and building self-esteem and self discipline.
  • There is no better vantage point to be involved in the game.
  • We have fun!
The returning referees are the backbone of the referee organization. Your experience and dedication are greatly appreciated. We hope that all the wonderful people who were referees for us last year will volunteer again this season.

Region 108 is especially looking to the parents of our younger 8U and 10U division players to volunteer to referee. The time commitment is minimal because the majority of the games you referee will be those in which your own child is playing.

Players 12 years and older and older siblings are also welcome to referee. This is a great community service activity to earn high school service hours and list on college applications!  To learn more, check out our Youth Referee Program.  Players 10 and 11 years old are still strongly encouraged to be club linesmen at 8U, come take the training (online and in person), and be part of the Youth Referee Program, but can't yet be certified regional referees.

To be an AYSO referee, you must complete four easy steps;

1) fill out a volunteer form under the register now button

2) register and take the “Online Regional Referee” course on the AYSOU website. You should print the certificate and bring it to class.

3) register for our in-person “Regional Referee Online Companion" course on the AYSOU website. Bring clothes and shoes you can run in a bit. And a light sweater/jacket, the sports complex can be cold at times.

4) take a short Safe Haven™ course online on the AYSOU website,

5) while you’re there, take the mandatory Concussion Awareness Training on the AYSOU website,

Go to the Referee Training and Certification page to learn more.
